What you should and should not give the new Mom as a baby shower gift

Baby shower gift etiquette is something that Aunt Abby finds to be pretty amusing. In fact, it is unbelievable that so many people stress and worry about what to give or not give as a baby shower gift.
The truth of the matter is, there's not really any defined lines as to what is and isn't appropriate for a baby shower gift.
Aunt Abby's suggestions
Really, the only suggestion that Aunt Abby has in regard to the properness of baby shower gifts is, don't give anything that the new parents might find embarrassing or insulting.
Choosing a baby shower gift that will be appreciated and won't be insulting or embarrassing depends a lot on the person the baby shower is being held for, their personality and their relationship with the baby shower gift giver and other guests that will be at the baby shower.
There are some things, like weight loss aids, stretch mark cream, or breast feeding supplies that might embarrass some mothers-to-be if given to them as a baby shower gift in front of a lot of people.
These types of baby shower gifts are great gifts from a personal friend or someone the recipient is comfortable with, but if embarrassment is a concern, they should be given privately instead of at the baby shower.
Baby shower gifts of advice, such as books on how to take care of a baby, how to lose weight, or what to expect after childbirth can be really good gifts, but caution should be used in giving such gifts.
Whether or not they are appropriate and will be appreciated rather than insulting depends on the relationship between the giver and the receiver of the baby shower gift.
Aunt Abby's best advice is to lighten up and don't worry. Baby showers are a lot of fun for everyone and just about any baby shower gift is truly appreciated.
